The Grip - American Ninja Warrior Gym

The Grip is an American Ninja Warrior type gym where customers can come and pay to have access to intense obstacles and features. Customers come from all around the world to experience this high intensity, high impact training arena and the owners of the gym wanted to provide an ambiance to match the experience. They also wanted the audio system to be easy to use and extremely reliable.

The Grip team approached us and asked if we would be up for the task. Already on the project deploying a full Ubiquiti Unifi networking stack, including a security gateway, cloud key, POE networking switches, access points, and IP cameras, we reached out to Soundvision for help in designing an audio solution for the Grip.

With a conference call and set of blueprints for the gym, both Glitch Busters and Soundvision were able to understand the vision that the Grip Team had for their gym. Working together, both companies were able to leverage the room dimensions and characteristics to design an immersive, high energy and crystal clear listening experience.

BeatDropsTM by TruAudio were used to complement the modern industrial open ceiling architecture. They were spaced out strategically to provide a balanced listening experience so that no matter where you are in the gym, the music was energizing. When BeatDrops were not practical, TruAudio’s surface mount 70V speakers were leveraged to continue the amazing listening experience. All speakers were powered by a Crown CDI series amplifier. Finally, a VSSL A.1 was deployed to provide its native streaming music technology, allowing any music app to be the audio source for the gym.

The speakers were installed using 70V technology. Wherein two channels of a CDI-1000 are used with a custom DSP preset loaded and selected allowing both channels to be used to power the BeatDrops. The CDI-1000 features 500 watts per channel, for a total available power output of 1000 watts. Following industry best practices of only using 80% of the available power or 800 watts, we know that we can connect 12 BeatDrops (12 x 60 watts @ 70V = 720 Watts) and two of the OL-70V (2 x 30 watts @ 70V = 60 watts) for a total power consumption of 780 watts. The Crown amp is also configured to take the stereo source (left and right channel) and mono summing the signal so each speaker is playing the same thing throughout the project.

I have been using VSSL in projects for some time now, and I knew it was going to be a great fit for this project. Soundvision’s extensive product portfolio and responsive and attentive support provided a phenomenal, easy-to-use, solution for the Grip.
